Kalenga Augustine (K.A.) Mulenga loves writing children’s books! His mission is to write books that have an important life lesson in an easy yet fun way, thus giving parents a helping hand in teaching and nurturing their children. With colourful illustrations and a wide range of different and diverse characters, ranging from Whales to Leopards. Kalenga aims to inspire readers to do the right thing. Kalenga lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with his wife, his 2 daughters, his son and his 4 dogs (2 Labradors and 2 Maltese Crosses). He loves reading, and is an avid soccer fan. Writing runs in his blood, as his late father was a journalist and the first black editor of the Zambia Daily Mail, and his late brother was a poet. Kalenga started writing when he was still in the 3rd Grade. His stories won a few competitions at his school, and winning made him a voracious reader. Reading just urged him to write more! Fast-forward to 2020 and after an inspirational "a-ha" moment, he started writing again and to date has written 21 children's picture books, has a middle-grade novel in the works, and a memoir waiting to be published. Kalenga’s mission is to create stories which inspire and teach children important life lessons. He also wants to help parents to teach their children important life lessons. He wants his books to bring families and people together, for adults (teachers, parents, etc.) to enjoy the stories while reading to the children. For the children that can read on their own, to share his stories with their friends. He also wants to share his work, not just in South Africa, but all over the world, and would love for his stories to be translated into different languages, so that not only the English-speaking countries can enjoy and benefit from them, but the children of the world. He would like his books to help children with phonics and to get them in as many speech therapy practices as possible. Finally, his mission is to make children happy, seeing the children enjoying his books is the greatest achievement of all! Kalenga’s dream is to create an animated series based on the books, and though without a specific plan on how to do so at this stage, he is determined to make it happen!

Booktopia is Australia's largest bookstore, with over 150,000 items in stock, ready to ship, and access to over 6,000,000 titles. Located in London, Ontario, Attic Books is one of Canada's largest bookstores, making it a tourist destination. With a large and diverse stock of antique books, maps and prints, our shop appeals to a wide range of customers. We have been in business since 1976. Our services include appraisals, purchases, consultations and assistance with general care of books and paper collectibles. Proprietor Marvin Post is a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) and the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of Canada (ABAC). In 1976, Marvin Post opened his shop at 428 Richmond St., London, Ontario, on the third floor. His little bookstore fulfilled a personal dream, to be his own boss and indulge his love of beautiful books. Many loyal customers were made in those first few years, as Londoners began to discover the growing little bookstore hidden away in the Attic. One year later, Marvin moved his shop to 388 Clarence St., a few blocks away. Attic Books became a regular stop for downtown shoppers. However, in 1987, the Galleria Mall (now known as Citi Plaza) was about to be built, and the wrecking ball was set to destroy the building that Marvin occupied. So, he packed up his shop and moved to Parkhill, Ontario, where many of his regular customers drove out to see him. In 1996, the Mayor of London persuaded Marvin to reconsider downtown, so he purchased the property at 240 Dundas St. and moved the business back. Doing his own renovation work, Marvin refinished the floors, which were hidden by a grey nubby surface of indeterminate origin. The now revealed hardwood floors make our store as memorable as the ornate tin ceiling. The basement was opened up a few years later for discount books, and later the second floor opened, allowing us to expand the sections for more books to browse through.

Richard (“Dick”) Weatherford is a bookseller who loves old books and new technology. After teaching college for a number of years, he turned to selling antiquarian books via specialized catalogues from his home near Seattle. He soon realized that computer databases had a lot to offer the antiquarian book business. In 1982, he wrote a business plan for a company that would build an online database for antiquarian booksellers. He called the company Interloc because it would serve as an interlocutor (that's English professor for "go-between") to help sellers to locate hard-to-find books. Unfortunately, start-up capital was harder to find than a signed JD Salinger, in part because personal computers were still scarce, expensive, and difficult to connect. In 1991, Dick was hired by Faxon, a book and magazine subscription service firm, to salvage BookQuest, an early online database for antiquarian booksellers. BookQuest failed, but it taught Dick a lot, and it revived the idea of Interloc. Because computer use was growing exponentially, the idea seemed timely and Dick was able to raise nearly $50,000, mainly from booksellers who respected his thinking and vision. Interloc went live in 1993, prior to the widespread use of the world-wide web. Initially, Interloc was a database for professional booksellers only. It was not open to the public. Dick recruited Tom Sawyer, who in 1993 published Record Manager, the first desktop software for booksellers. The data standard that Tom developed for Record Manager, called UIEE, is still in widespread use today. Interloc enabled sellers to transfer files of book listings over modems using DOS-based computers. Interloc built the first system to match requests, or "wants" from customers with books available for sale. It was a pioneering system, and the small company became the first successful online service for booksellers. In 1997, Marty Manley asked an author friend how to find a copy of her book, which was out-of-print. Manley had what might politely be termed a non-standard resume: among other things, he had been a machinist and a leader of several labour unions, a McKinsey & Co. management consultant, a sought-after turnaround expert, and Assistant Secretary of Labour for Bill Clinton. Over dinner, the author suggested that Marty use Interloc to track down a copy of her book. Marty found the book and was immediately hooked on Interloc's rich content. He sought out Richard Weatherford and was soon introduced to him in an office at the top of San Francisco's highest skyscraper. Marty and Dick discussed how Interloc might become a company that could deliver the growing power of e-commerce to independent booksellers while delivering extraordinary selection to businesses and book lovers. They spent three weeks travelling and meeting with booksellers across the US to learn what was working and not working with the emerging world of online book selling. By the end of these travels, they had decided to create a new company out of Interloc. Thus, Alibris was born. Marty started the new company in California, where the first employees came to work in his house. From the beginning, Alibris brought several new approaches to online book selling. A partnership with independent, professional sellers. Marty and Dick decided early on that Alibris would be an at-risk partner, not a listing service. This approach attracted numerous independent sellers and now enables Alibris to offer over 150 million books for sale. Providing a marketplace selection to retail business partners. Alibris was determined to help other retailers deliver the vast selection of its seller network to their loyal customers, and thereby enable professional booksellers to reach business and library customers, not just consumers. Interloc had learned this lesson early by serving as the first supplier of out-of-print books to nearby Amazon.com. Specialized logistics. Many business customers required orders to be consolidated, repackaged, custom invoiced, or shipped overseas at low cost. By building sophisticated low-cost logistics capabilities from the start, Alibris would serve those customers and booksellers could enjoy the benefit of increased sales. Superior market intelligence. Because Alibris naturally collects a great deal of information about book buying and selling, the company came to be able to offer both customers and sellers essential market information. Today, Alibris knows which books sell and at what price. Alibris helps sellers continually update prices and makes sure that business customers get data for hard-to-find and used books that are as good as new. A great place for talented people to work. Le Salon du livre de Montréal est un événement annuel, festival littéraire, qui a pour objectif de promouvoir le livre et la lecture. Il met en contact les auteurs avec le public, les éditeurs, les libraires et les bibliothécaires. Il a lieu au mois de novembre au Palais des congrès de Montréal. Il est, avec le Salon du livre de Paris et le Salon du Livre de Beyrouth, l'une des trois plus importantes manifestations du livre francophone au niveau mondial. Le Salon du livre de Montréal valorise le rôle essentiel des auteur·rice·s, des créateur·rice·s et des artisan·e·s dans le milieu du livre et contribue ainsi à faire rayonner la diversité de la production éditoriale régionale, nationale et internationale. Autour d’une communauté d’amoureux·euses du livre et de lecteur·rice·s en devenir, la mission première du Salon est de promouvoir le livre et le plaisir de la lecture comme biens culturels dans la société québécoise. Finalement, le Salon rassemble et mobilise les créateur·rice·s, la communauté professionnelle du livre et les lecteur·rice·s du Québec, tout en offrant des lieux qui favorisent la création, l’échange et le débat autour des enjeux de notre société. La première édition du Festival du Livre de Paris qui se déroulait les 22, 23 et 24 avril 2022 a séduit les visiteurs dans son nouvel écrin, le Grand Palais Ephémère et ses espaces hors les murs dans de nombreux lieux prestigieux de la capitale : Académie du Climat, CERI-Sciences Po, Sorbonne Université et Institut Catholique de Paris, Maison de la Poésie, Musée Guimet, Panthéon et Petit Palais. Le Festival proposait une nouvelle formule sur trois jours en programmant des rencontres, des concerts, des expositions et des ateliers. 1000 auteurs, 1200 séances de dédicaces, 300 éditeurs présents, 250 interventions d’auteurs dont 50 hors-les-murs, 4000 scolaires… La majorité des rencontres affichaient complet et les allées n’ont pas désempli. Cette édition, gratuite pour la première fois, marque des retrouvailles avec des lecteurs curieux dans une ambiance festive et chaleureuse. Citons quelques temps fort au Grand Palais Ephémère tels que les rencontres avec le prix Goncourt Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, l’auteur ukrainien Andreï Kourkov, le prix Hans-Christian Andersen Marie-Aude Murail, l’exposition de Zep, le grand entretien avec le prix Nobel Orhan Pamuk au Panthéon, Mathias Malzieu et Nancy Huston au Petit Palais, Ludmila Oulistkaïa à la Maison de la Poésie, Hugo Clément à l’Académie du Climat, l’atelier cuisine de Barbara Brun et Caroline Solé… S’ajoutent à cette programmation, d’originales Flâneries littéraires proposées par Marie-Rose Guarnieri, présidente de l’association Verbes, dans des lieux mythiques parisiens : le Louvre, la Seine, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, une balade littéraire en bus, des rencontres européennes dans divers Instituts culturels étrangers. " Un immense merci à tous les auteurs, éditeurs, partenaires, libraires de l’association Paris Librairies qui ont rendu possible le renouveau de ce rendez-vous littéraire qui nous a tant manqué. Quelle plus belle manière, dans le cadre exceptionnel du Grand Palais Éphémère, de célébrer le livre, sous toutes ses formes. The annual exhibition at the City Hall organized by the Hong Kong Publishing Federation could be regarded as the predecessor of the Hong Kong Book Fair. The First Hong Kong Book Fair was held in 1990. The Fair has become an annual major event in Hong Kong, with the number of visitors reaching a new high every year. The organizer, the HKTDC, has always been striving to promote local reading culture. Apart from extensively inviting the public to the Fair to visit and buy books, it also spares no effort in organizing diversified cultural activities during the Book Fair period with a view to enhance the contents and quality of the Fair. During the past 20 years the number of exhibitors has grown from 149 to 504 in 2009, with corresponding growth of attendance from 200,000 to 900,000 in 2009. The Fair has developed from a mere promotion platform for the industry to an annual territory-wide major reading and cultural event for the public of Hong Kong. During the pandemic, the Hong Kong Book Fair provided an online platform to enable participation for the public, who love reading and learning. They specially collected a series of online reading, learning and cultural activities resources provided by their partners to broaden our horizons and thinking, cleanse our souls, inspire our lives, and equip us with a stronger self. The exhibition offers various books and publications, such as, books for children and teens, religious and spiritual books, e-books and e-learning resources, sports and leisure books, they also have exhibitions showcasing education and learning, hobbies, audio-visual and multimedia products. Since the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair’s launch in 1981, the Fair has striven to uphold the original mission of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, the founding father of the UAE.
